The album was first mentioned by Brandon Flowers in an interview with Billboard in late August,[2] and Rolling Stone revealed the name of the compilation in its "Smoking Section" on September 6, 2007.[3] The Killers were inspired by B-sides collections such as Oasis' The Masterplan, The Smiths' Hatful of Hollow, Smashing Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot and Nirvana's Incesticide.[4] The album debuted at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 82,000 copies in its first week.[5] It also peaked at number 2 on iTunes, just below Alicia Keys' new album.[citation needed] As of March 15, 2008, the album has sold 283,871 copies in the US.
